Bhadgaon: (Bhaktapur Durbar Square): (World Heritage Site) Upon entering, you cannot help but be overcome by a feeling of inner harmony. Such is the art, architecture and spatial design here. The 15th century Palace of 55 windows, located to the left as you enter the city gate, inspires admiration. The National Gallery of Art is also located inside. The entrance to the palace, the Golden Gate, is a masterpiece of repoussé art. Opposite the palace building is a mixture of temples of various designs.
Boudha Nath: Boudhanath is one of the largest stupas in South Asia, and has become the focal point of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal. The white mound looms thirty-six meters above his head. The stupa is located on the ancient trade route to Tibet, and Tibetan merchants rested and offered prayers here for many centuries. When refugees entered Nepal from Tibet in the 1950s, many of them decided to live around Bouddha Nath. They established many gompas, and Nepal’s “Little Tibet” was born. This “Little Tibet” remains the best place in the valley to observe the Tibetan way of life. The monks walk around in maroon robes. Many people believe that Bouddha Nath was built in the 5th century, but definitive evidence is lacking. The stupa is said to bury the remains of a sage Kasyap who is venerable to both Buddhists and Hindus.
