The Golden Circle tour allows you to visit some of Iceland´s most stunning sites starting with Gullfoss (Golden Falls) waterfall, created by the river Hvítá, which tumbles and plunges into a crevice some 32 m (105 ft.) deep. Waterfall where you will see thousands of tons of icy water thunder majestically down in double falls into a deep canyon.
The visit continues with Geysir geothermal area where bubbling hot springs and geysers are abundant. Here you’ll find also Strokkur, the most active geyser in the area, sprouting up to 25-30 meters.
The final stop will be at Thingvellir National Park, a remarkable historical and geological site, which is located by Lake Thingvallavatn, the largest lake in Iceland. The beautiful canyon running through the park is actually the meeting point of two of the earth’s tectonic plates. Furthermore, in this area the oldest form of parliament had met since 930.

Day 03 : Reykjavik
After breakfast,
South Coast Day Tour the guide will be waiting in front of the hotel.
We drive through Hveragerai and Selfoss. We drive to Vik a small village where we take a lunch break before exploring the village. From Vik we go to Reynisfjara a black beach pounded by the Atlantic Ocean. Out in the sea you will see the basalt sea stacks Reynisdrangar and Dyrholaey which is the most southern part of Iceland. The area is rich of birdlife including Puffins and Guillemots.
From Reynisfjara we head to Solheimajokull (Glacier) a beautiful oulet glacier of the Myrdalsjokull icecap, Solheimajokull is a magnificent glacier a rugged, raw and ever changing hub of ancient frozen water.
After a good day on the south coast we head back to Reykjavik.

Day 04 : Depart Reykjavik

DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 01 : Arrive Reykjavik

Day 02 : Reykjavik – Hella
After breakfast,
Proceed to morning you meet your tour guide who shows the group some of the highlights of Iceland’s capital. Then we head out to the Reykjanes peninsula famous for hot springs, picturesque mountains, bird cliffs, light houses and quaint fishing villages. Later on we get to relax in the warm blue waters of the famous Blue Lagoon. This evening, we hear all about the Northern Lights and once darkness falls we head out in the garden and wait for this beautiful natural phenomena to appear. Overnight at hotel.
Day 03 : Hella
After breakfast,
Proceed to today we travel along the South coast and visit the active volcano that is beneath the Eyjafjallajokull glacier. We also have the option to take a glacier hike on the Solheimajokull glacier – see the trip notes for more details. We stop at the high but narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which plunges over the mountain. Those wishing to get a bit closer can take a trail that goes behind the falling water but be prepared to get wet. Continuing on we stroll along black lava beach to see the amazing bird cliffs at Reynisfjara near Vik. This afternoon we visit Skogafoss a 60 meter high waterfall and one of the most impressive in Iceland. Nearby is one of Iceland’s finest folk museums, containing an outstanding collection of farm and domestic artefacts typical of Iceland’s past, as well as turf-built houses. This evening we have another presentation about the Northern Lights and if the night is clear, we might be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights swirling in a wild and carefree dance across the sky in dramatic shapes, colours, patterns and sizes. The grounds of Arhus cottages are very large and dark offering you a great location for Northern Lights searching if the weather conditions are right. It requires patience, warm clothing and the excitement of “maybe there is Northern Lights. Overnight at hotel.
Day 04 : Hella – Reykjavik
After breakfast,
Proceed to morning we learn about the indigenous Icelandic horse and its history and special qualities. We also visit a geothermal greenhouse seeing steam from the Geysir geothermal fields as you arrive. There is a variety of hot springs and bubbling pools. The original geyser is now dormant but has been replaced by Strokkur “the Churn” which erupts at 5-10 minute intervals. Continuing on to Gullfoss “the golden falls”, a double waterfall that tumbles 34 meters into the Hvita River. Next we travel inland to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site before returning to Reykjavik for one night. An optional Northern Lights evening cruise can be booked on the spot, if the weather conditions are ideal. Overnight at hotel.

Day 02 : Reykjavik – Hella
After breakfast,
Proceed to morning we get a short introduction to Icelandic geology while watching a striking film at Reykjavik Volcano House documenting the eruptions of Eyjafjallajokull and Fimmvoraulhals in 2010. At the Volcano House you can experience a hands-on geological exhibition where you can examine various pieces of pumice, ash and lava from Icelandic volcanoes. Later on we depart Reykjavik for Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site, and where the Althingi, the oldest legislative assembly in the world was founded. Continuing on we explore the hot springs at Geysir, these natural springs bubbling away in the ground before exploding in spectacular style. Geysir and Strokkur are the two biggest of the geysers in the area and while Geysir no longer is active, Strokkur still spouts every 5 to 15 minutes to the delight of visitors. Next we travel to Gullfoss, “the golden falls“, which is a double waterfall that tumbles 34 meters into the Hvita river and one of Iceland’s most beautiful. This evening, we hear all about the Northern Lights from our tour guide. Naturally, once darkness falls, we are out in the garden waiting for the Northern Lights.

Day 03 : Hella – Kirkjubaejarklaustur
After breakfast,
Proceed to we begin a long drive to a world of glaciers and icebergs at Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon. We explore this extraordinary site on the lookout for seals swimming in the cold waters. We can walk on the black sandy beach where large icebergs get stranded. The Vatnajokull National Park is about 12,000 square kilometers and is the largest National Park in Europe. In this area we find Iceland’s highest mountains, an alpine environment and Europe’s largest glacier. Tonight we enjoy a movie presentation about the Northern Lights as a part of the Northern Lights educational program. Be careful not to go to bed too soon in this remote and quiet location, or you may just miss out one more chance of seeing the Northern Lights shimmering and dancing across the night sky.

Day 04 : Kirkjubaejarklaustur – Reykjavik
After breakfast,
Proceed to we head across the Laki lava field to the village of Vik where we make a photo stop. We take a stroll on the black lava beach and along the bird cliffs at Reynisfjara beach in South Iceland, passing the glacier Myrdalsjokull and the infamous volcano Eyjafjallajokull continuing to Skogafoss waterfall. Further west we reach the high but narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall which plunges over the mountain. Those wishing to get a bit closer can take a trail that goes behind the falling water but be prepared to get wet. In the evening you return to Reykjavik for one last night. An optional Northern Lights bus tour or fjord cruise can be booked on the spot, if the weather conditions are ideal. We stay for one night in Iceland’s capital.

Day 02 : Reykjavik – Borgarnes
After breakfast,
Proceed to Reykjavik city tour exploring some of the highlights of Iceland’s capital. The Borgarfjorour valley is known as the Saga valley of West Iceland because many important historical events took place there. You get a chance to climb the Grabrok volcano crater and warm up at Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring, producing 180 litres of nearly boiling water 97°c per second. Next we head to Hraunfossar, full of waterfalls that pour from beneath a kilometre-wide lava field. We spend the next two nights at Borgarnes in West Iceland. This afternoon includes a lecture about Northern Lights and after dinner we take a walk into the garden to search for the Northern Lights followed by a hot cup of chocolate or tea. Day 03 : Borgarnes
After breakfast,
Proceed to we explore the Snaellsnes Peninsula which juts out from Iceland’s west coast. A rugged mountain chain runs its length. We travel to the charming fishing town of Stykkisholmur for a lunchtime cruise on the Breidafjordur fjord. Afterwards we can stroll around the sheltered harbour exploring this charming town with its many old wooden houses. A uniquely Icelandic “treat “awaits you at our next stop, Bjarnarhofn, where they make Hakarl – delicious fermented shark. On our way back to Reykholt we stop at Borgarnes where we have the opportunity for an optional visit to the Icelandic Settlement Center museum, or to the local geothermal swimming pool. Today our guide gives us some practical tips of how to photograph the Auroras as part of the Northern Lights Academy program. Naturally, once darkness falls, we are out and about chasing the Northern Lights which is most pleasant while soaking in the hotel’s outdoor hot tubs. Overnight at hotel.
Day 04 : Borgarnes – Hella
After breakfast,
Proceed to morning we travel along the scenic shores of the Hvalfjorour fjord, stopping at an Icelandic wool outlet store before turning inland to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. After a stop at the park, we continue to Gullfoss “the golden falls“ a double waterfall that tumbles 34 meters into the Hvita River. Look out for the steam from the Geysir geothermal fields as we arrive. Here there is a variety of hot springs and bubbling pools with the original geyser now dormant but Strokkur the Churn very much still active with eruptions every 5-10 minutes. When we get to Geysir, we visit the restaurant and taste freshly baked hot spring bread served with delicious Icelandic butter, geothermally boiled eggs, and local herring. This is best served with a small glass of ice cold nearly frozen Geysir Schnapps. This afternoon, we learn about the history of the hardy Icelandic horse and the special qualities they possess. We also visit a geothermal greenhouse, before reaching our accommodation in South Iceland. Tonight, we step into the darkness and search for the elusive Northern Lights, which are best enjoyed from the comfort of the hot tub in the garden of the hotel amidst the peace and stillness of rural Iceland. Day 05 : Hella Kirkjubaejarklaustur
After breakfast,
Proceed to our first stop is at the Eyjafjallajokull Information Centre where we learn about how people live next to a glacier and an active volcano and the famous eruption of 2010. Further east we visit one of Iceland’s finest folk museums. This museum contains an outstanding collection of farm and domestic artefacts typical of Iceland’s past as well as turf-built houses. Nearby is the waterfall of Skogafoss which stands 60 meters tall and is one of the most impressive waterfalls in Iceland. This afternoon we take a stroll along black lava beach and the bird cliffs at Reynisfjara beach in South Iceland. We spend the next 2 nights near Kirkjubaejarklaustur in the Vatnajokull National Park region, located in complete darkness and ideal for Northern Lights search. Overnight at hotel.
Day 06 : Kirkjubaejarklaustur
After breakfast,
Proceed to morning we travel to Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon which is filled with floating icebergs. Exploring this extraordinary site we keep an eye out for seals swimming in the freezing Arctic waters. We then can walk along the black sandy beach where some large icebergs have gotten stranded. This afternoon we visit the tiny turf church in the town of Hof before heading to the National Park. The Vatnajokull National Park covers about 12,000 square kilometres and is the largest National Park in Europe. Here we find Iceland’s highest mountains, an alpine environment, and Europe’s largest glacier which the park is named after. Tonight we enjoy a movie presentation about the Northern Lights as a part of the Northern Lights Academy program before hopefully seeing the Northern Lights shimmering and dancing across the night sky. Overnight at hotel.
Day 07 : Kirkjubaejarklaustur – Vik – Reykjavik

Proceed to the black lava beach and along the bird cliffs at Reynisfjara beach in South Iceland, Further west we reach the high but narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall which plunges over the mountain. Those wishing to get a bit closer can take a trail that goes behind the falling water but be prepared to get wet. In the afternoon we return to Reykjavik where we have a couple of hours to explore Iceland’s capital on our own, visit museums, do some shopping or simply rest after all this touring. This evening we head to the famous Blue Lagoon for a relaxing soak, followed by a traditional Icelandic dinner at the Northern Light Inn Hotel and finishing off with one last nocturnal tour to seek more Northern Lights. Around midnight we reach Reykjavík for one last night. Overnight at hotel.

Day 02 : Reykjavik – Grimsborgir
After breakfast,
Proceed to a two-hour city tour of the world’s northern-most capital. The Hallgrimskirkja church is one of the crowning landmarks and star attractions of Reykjavik. With its iconic tower rising symmetrically and incrementally to a magnificent 74.5m peak, our tour includes the visit to the exceptional observation tower of the church affording incredible panoramic views across the city. Moving on we learn more about the history and culture of Icelandic cheese and the unique dairy product skyr at a cheese and skyr school. After some cheese tasting we have a delicious lunch in a fabulous cheese school buttery. This afternoon we depart Reykjavik for Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site, and where the oldest legislative assembly in the world was founded. This is one of Iceland’s most fascinating places both geologically and for the role it plays in the country’s history and sense of national identity. The last stop today is at the new thermal baths in Laugarvatn, where healing geothermal heat simmers directly from the ground and the landscape is painted with beautiful mountain ranges. Expert tour guide provides us with a fact seminar about the Northern Lights and teaches us how to take photos of this natural phenomenon. Afterwards we step into the darkness or soak in the hotel’s outdoor hot tubs and check if the Northern Lights are visible. Overnight at hotel.
Day 03 : Grimsborgir
After breakfast,
Proceed to morning we head to Gullfoss, “the golden falls“, which is a double waterfall that tumbles 34 meters into the Hvita river. Nearby are the Geysir geothermal fields with a variety of hot springs and bubbling pools. The original geyser is now dormant but has been replaced by Strokkur “the Churn” which erupts at 5-10 minute intervals. The next stop is at the nearly 3000 year old and 55m deep explosion crater called Kerid that is filled with water, creating a lake whose steep circular slopes resemble an ancient amphitheatre. In the greenhouse village of Hveragerdi we meet a local man telling us all about living at an earthquake active place with different kind of geothermal powers and challenges. During a short and easy walk we visit hot springs and other natural wonders. We get the opportunity to boil an egg in a hot spring and taste hot steam baked bread – one of the region’s culinary specialities. We travel on to the seaside villages of Stokkseyri and Eyrarbakki with many old and colourful houses. Strolling along the black sands at one of the local beaches. We are now invited to a private tour around a local folk museum and a historic wooden church in one of Iceland’s prettiest coastal villages. If you like “local” then you get the opportunity to taste shark meat, dried fish and Brennivin Black Death schnapps. After a nice langoustine dinner at a nearby seaside restaurant we go outside to watch out for the magical Northern Lights before returning to the hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 04 : Grimsborgir

Proceed to today we head out along the South coast starting at the high but narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall which plunges over the mountain. There‘s an interesting trail that goes behind the fall – if you are prepared to get wet. Journeying further east we stop at the Eyjafjallajokull Information Centre and learn about living next to a glacier and the active volcano that cause international chaos in 2010. In the small village of Skogar we visit Skogafoss waterfall which is 60 meters high and one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country. Now we can opt for an easy guided walk to a nearby glacier, or continue the bus tour to explore a black lava beach with bird cliffs. Tonight we enjoy a video presentation about Northern Lights as a part of the Northern Lights educational program. Be careful not to go to bed too soon in this remote and quiet location, or you may just miss out one more chance of seeing the Northern Lights shimmering and dancing across the night sky.

Day 05 : Grimsborgir – Reykjavik

Proceed to morning we head to the Reykjanes peninsula where we take the less travelled route and see the region’s many unusual geological features, hot springs, moon landscapes, bird cliffs, light houses and fishing villages. We visit a Viking ship and history museum that tells the story about the Viking expansion across the North Atlantic and stop for a delicious unique seafood & crab feast for lunch.
After lunch we head to our final stop at the famous Blue Lagoon for a soak in the relaxing geothermal water including a drink of your choice and a volcano scrub or an algae mask. Overnight at hotel.
Day 06 : Reykjavik
After breakfast,
Proceed to visit museums, do some shopping, indulge in spa treatments or go on an optional whale watching tour. This evening we headout for a Northern Lights hunt by boat as we escape from the city lights. A Northern Lights tour on the sea is an amazing experience. We sail away from the coastline of Reykjavik and look out for the aurora borealis on the North-Atlantic ocean by having beautiful mountains and the city lights in the background which is really an unforgettable experience. The tour takes 2,5 – 3 hours, departing from Reykjavik’s old harbour cruising up the beautiful coastline of Iceland’s capital on our way out to search for the Northern Lights. Overnight at hotel.
Day 07 : Reykjavik
After breakfast,
Proceed to we head out and explore West Iceland on a full day super-jeep adventure. The stunning scenery includes the ice of the great Langjokull glacier and the fire of one of the country’s most active geothermal areas. This is Iceland in a nutshell. The tour takes 8 – 9 hours and includes the following highlights: Kaldidalur highland track, Langjokull & Eiriksjokull glaciers, Surtshellir caves, Hraunfossar & Barnafoss waterfalls, Reykholt cultural site, Deildartunguhver hot springs and Hvalfjoraur fjord. This is a true super-jeep adventure with spectacular landscapes. Northern Lights in Style

Day 01 : Arrive Reykjavik
Arrival at Keflavik International Airport and transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 02 : Reykjavik – Grimsborgir
After breakfast,
Proceed to a two-hour city tour of the world’s northern-most capital. The Hallgrimskirkja church is one of the crowning landmarks and star attractions of Reykjavik. With its iconic tower rising symmetrically and incrementally to a magnificent 74.5m peak, our tour includes the visit to the exceptional observation tower of the church affording incredible panoramic views across the city. Moving on we learn more about the history and culture of Icelandic cheese and the unique dairy product skyr at a cheese and skyr school. After some cheese tasting we have a delicious lunch in a fabulous cheese school buttery. This afternoon we depart Reykjavik for Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site, and where the oldest legislative assembly in the world was founded. This is one of Iceland’s most fascinating places both geologically and for the role it plays in the country’s history and sense of national identity. The last stop today is at the new thermal baths in Laugarvatn, where healing geothermal heat simmers directly from the ground and the landscape is painted with beautiful mountain ranges. Expert tour guide provides us with a fact seminar about the Northern Lights and teaches us how to take photos of this natural phenomenon. Afterwards we step into the darkness or soak in the hotel’s outdoor hot tubs and check if the Northern Lights are visible. Overnight at hotel.
Day 03 : Grimsborgir
After breakfast,
Proceed to morning we head to Gullfoss, “the golden falls“, which is a double waterfall that tumbles 34 meters into the Hvita river. Nearby are the Geysir geothermal fields with a variety of hot springs and bubbling pools. The original geyser is now dormant but has been replaced by Strokkur “the Churn” which erupts at 5-10 minute intervals. The next stop is at the nearly 3000 year old and 55m deep explosion crater called Kerid that is filled with water, creating a lake whose steep circular slopes resemble an ancient amphitheatre. In the greenhouse village of Hveragerdi we meet a local man telling us all about living at an earthquake active place with different kind of geothermal powers and challenges. During a short and easy walk we visit hot springs and other natural wonders. We get the opportunity to boil an egg in a hot spring and taste hot steam baked bread – one of the region’s culinary specialities. We travel on to the seaside villages of Stokkseyri and Eyrarbakki with many old and colourful houses. Strolling along the black sands at one of the local beaches. We are now invited to a private tour around a local folk museum and a historic wooden church in one of Iceland’s prettiest coastal villages. If you like “local” then you get the opportunity to taste shark meat, dried fish and Brennivin Black Death schnapps. After a nice langoustine dinner at a nearby seaside restaurant we go outside to watch out for the magical Northern Lights before returning to the hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 04 : Grimsborgir
After breakfast,
Proceed to today we head out along the South coast starting at the high but narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall which plunges over the mountain. There‘s an interesting trail that goes behind the fall – if you are prepared to get wet. Journeying further east we stop at the Eyjafjallajokull Information Centre and learn about living next to a glacier and the active volcano that cause international chaos in 2010. In the small village of Skogar we visit Skogafoss waterfall which is 60 meters high and one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country. Now we can opt for an easy guided walk to a nearby glacier, or continue the bus tour to explore a black lava beach with bird cliffs. Tonight we enjoy a video presentation about Northern Lights as a part of the Northern Lights educational program. Be careful not to go to bed too soon in this remote and quiet location, or you may just miss out one more chance of seeing the Northern Lights shimmering and dancing across the night sky. Overnight at hotel.
Day 05 : Grimsborgir – Grindavik
After breakfast, proceed to morning we head to the Reykjanes peninsula where we take the less travelled route and see the region’s many unusual geological features, hot springs, moon landscapes, bird cliffs, light houses and fishing villages. We visit a Viking ship and history museum that tells the story about the Viking expansion across the North Atlantic and stop for a delicious unique seafood and crab feast for lunch. After lunch we head to our final stop at the famous Blue Lagoon for a soak in the relaxing geothermal water including a drink of your choice and a volcano scrub or an algae mask. Evening we have a farewell dinner at the Hotel Northern Light Inn. Overnight at hotel.
Day 06 : Depart Reykjavik
Departure transfer to onwards destination.
