Overnight at Delhi

Morning proceed for sightseeing of New Delhi. Today we will drive past some of the iconic sights in Delhi. We will see the Indian Presidents House, Parliament building build and India Gate. Later we will visit Qutab Minar, the 72.5 meter high tower dating back to the 13th century.

In the afternoon, we will visit a Milk Plant.

Morning we will depart for Agra.

Later we will proceed to agricultural institute to se farms and the different ways of farming and meet the local people of the area.

Today early morning visit Taj Mahal at sunrise – The Taj Mahal is the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage.

Later in the day sightseeing of Agra fort – 16th-century Mughal monument . Situated on the bank of river Yamuna, the Agra Fort today, stands as a citadel of the past that has witnessed centuries slip by).

Our final stop today will be Itmad ud Daulah – Before the Taj Mahal was built, its design was already standing in the form of Itmad Ud Daulah’s Tomb, hence it is affectionately known as the ‘Baby Taj’.

Overnight at Agra.

Today morning after breakfast drive to Jaipur. Enroute we will stop at a village for lunch .

In the village, you will get firsthand knowledge about farming in India. You can also participate the farming parctises to get an hands on experience.

Enjoy ample leg space as you sit, stretch, stand or even lie down in the back local ride. Experience the joy of being driven around in the most popular means of mass transport of the locals – the self made open truck!

Later continue drive to Jaipur.

Overnight at Jaipur.

After breakfast, you will be taken for sightseeing of Jaipur. Morning visit Amber fort- One of the finest examples of Rajput/Mughal architecture. Built in 16th century it stands as a testament reflecting the glory of the fierce Kachawaha Dynasty that ruled over the region from 12th to the 18th century.

Later we will visit Hawa Mahal which is the best-known landmark of Jaipur; City Palace, a blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. ; Jantar Mantar is only one of the five observatories constructed by Jai Singh to whom the city owes its name.

Afternoon visit agriculture research institute, to understand the farming procedure and other related things in India.

Overnight at Jaipur.

Morning in time transfer to Jaipur airport to board flight for Delhi.

Arrive Delhi at 0925 hrs and then drive to Zirakpur ( Approx. 240 Kms/ 5 hrs drive).

Upon arrival check in at hotel.

Overnight at Zirakpur.

Full day excursion to Patiala where you will see the big farm house where you will see poly house cultivation on commercial scale. Also visit local village nearby where you will meet the farmers.

Later visit the local market to have the feel to life in the area.

Overnight at Zirakpur.

Morning visit Rice Sheller and local market. Also visit the place where farmers actually sell their products to the supplier from where it is distributed to the customers.

Later drive to Delhi and then check in at a nice airport hotel for dinner with wash and change room.

PROGRAM 2 – Butterflies & Dragonflies Tour of Western Ghats
Duration: 08 Nights / 09 Days

After arriving in Kochi at 9.30am, we will set off on our 2-hour journey to Kumarakom where we stay at the wonderful Coconut Lagoon resort. It is located on the eastern banks of the mighty Lake Vembanad in the sleepy little town of Kumarakom in central Kerala. Kerala is a chilli-shaped state on the south-western tip of India, and has been described by the National Geographic Traveller as one of the 10 paradises on Earth! Situated at the heartland of Kerala’s famed backwaters, Kumarakom has changed little since the Middle Ages, except for the occurrence of a few tasteful and exotic resorts which make it the perfect starting point for exploring the surrounding area.

This afternoon we will explore the butterfly garden at the resort we are staying in. There are large populations of Butterflies and Southern Bird Wing (Largest Butterfly in India), Blue Mormon (Second Largest Butterfly in India), Common Jay, Blue Bottle and a some species Dragonflies namely Common Picturewing (Rhyothemis variegata), Trumpet-Tail (Acisoma panorpoides), Scarlet Marsh Hawk (Aethriamanta brevipennis) Rufous-Backed Marsh Hawk (Brachydiplax chalybea).

After an early breakfast at Kumarakom, we’ll set off on our short journey to Thattekad, as we travel, through the Keralan countryside to Thattekad. On our way to Thattekad we shall stop at a small stream and look out for dragonflies. In past more than 35 different species of dragonflies have been recorded within this hundred metre stretch.

The eponymous Thattekad Wildlife Sanctuary, also known as the Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary in honour of the pre-eminent Indian birder, is located two hours’ drive from the port city of Kochi, near Kothamanagalam, on the northern bank of the Periyar River. The Sanctuary was established in 1983, based on a recommendation made by Dr. Salim Ali many years previously. He described Thattekad in the 1930’s as the richest bird habitat in peninsular India, comparable only with the eastern Himalayas. Much of the forest has now been converted to agricultural and plantation areas, but the surviving areas certainly give glimpses of the rich diversity of the once widespread lowland forests of Kerala. In Thattekad we will be staying at the Soma Birds Lagoon, Soma Birds Lagoon resort is built the traditional Kerala way. Well-furnished and spacious Air Conditioned and Non Air Conditioned cottages equipped with all necessary amenities combines tradition and comfort.

We will spend two full days here, devoting the mornings to explore various habitats on the periphery of the sanctuary. We will also be making excursions from Thattekad to Idamalayar Dam & Bhoothathankettu two dams with short distances from our lodge. These areas are very good for butterflies and dragonflies.

We will also be visiting Urulan Thani an Evergreen patch of forest & good for Endemic Dragonflies & Butterflies. Some of the speicies that we are likely to encounter are Dragonflies-Blue Darner(Anax immaculifrons), Common Clubtail (Ictinogomphus rapax),Asiatic Blood tail (Lathrecista asiatica), Fulvous Forest Skimmer (Neurothemisfulvia), Tricloroured Marsh Hawk(Orthetrum luzonicum), Crimson Marsh

Glider(Trithemis aurora), Iridescent Stream Glider(Zygonyx iris), Stream Glory(Neurobasis chinensis), Stream Ruby(Rhinocypha bisignata), Malabar Torrent Dart(Euphaea fraseri).

Today we will drive on southwards to Periyar Tiger Reserve. We will go from a high range of hills today into some lowlands before ascending once again into the Cardamom Hills to reach Periyar. While journeying through these lowlands, there may be a chance to see some endemic birds like Yellow-throated Bulbul, Malabar Whistling Thrush and Indian Edible-nest Swiftlet.

Periyar is one of the sixteen Project Tiger reserves in India, and one of the most picturesque and beautiful wildlife reserves in the world. With its waterways, forests and grasslands, it provides a fitting end to our wildlife tour of southern India.

Despite the destruction of much of the lowland forest within the Reserve as a result of the construction of a dam across the Periyar River in 1895, its 777 square kilometres provide a haven for a wide range of mammals, including Tiger, Elephant, Gaur, Sloth bear, Leopard, Dhole, Nilgiri Langur and Lion-tailed Macaque as well as some dragonflies Blue-Tailed Forest Hawk(Orthetrum triangulare),Blue Marsh Hawk(Orthetrum glaucum),Blue Hawklet (Hylaeothemis indica),Crimson-Tailed Marsh Hawk(Orthetrum pruinosum) and few Butterflies like Tamil Catseye, Glad Eye Bush Brown, Clipper, Indian Awlking . The Reserve also has a rich and varied bird fauna and we will see several of the species found only in southern India and Sri Lanka, such as Malabar Trogon, Malabar Grey Hornbill, Long-billed Sunbird and, if we are very lucky, Sri Lanka Frogmouth.

We will spend three nights here, exploring the Reserve by boat and on foot. The boat journeys provide unrivalled opportunities for observing mammals, particularly Elephant, at close range. A longer excursion, deep into the forests on foot with local tribal guides, will help to make this an intimate and unique experience.

We drive to Marari from Periyar to enjoy the wonderful Marari Beach Resort. Marari originates from ‘Mararikulam’, one of the local fishing villages, where life still goes on much as it did a hundred years ago, with the men going out to sea each day to fish. In Mararikulam, a sleepy fishing village located between the port city of Kochi and Alleppey, the Marari Beach Resort is set in 25 acres of coconut palm groves which lead down to the vast expanse of beach. This resort, 90 kilometres from Kochi International Airport and 12 kilometres from Alleppey, is constructed with a strong ethnic flavour, yet all 52 villa-cottages are air-conditioned, with spacious, modern bathrooms and twin or double bedroom, a minibar, coffee-making facilities and a delightfully furnished verandah with ceiling fan and which, in traditional Keralan style, gives onto an open-air courtyard, complete with a banana or papaya tree and each villa has a small private garden area.

Visitors can enjoy cruises on the nearby backwaters, visit traditional coir-making units or experience cultural shows in the amphitheatre. Facilities include a swimming pool, an Ayurveda centre, laundry services and currency exchange. There is also a buffet restaurant, which serves delectable Indian and Continental food and a bar. PROGRAM 3 – Camping in Bedni Bugyal
Duration: 05 Nights / 06 Days
Places: Delhi – Haridwar – Rishikesh – Karnprayag – Mundoli – Bugyal – Bedini – Karnprayag – Haridwar – Delhi

In the morning transfer to railway station and from here catch AC train for Haridwar at 06:50 hrs. Arrival at Haridwar by 11:25 hrs. On arrival meet our guide and transfer to Rishikesh by road & check into hotel. In the evening visit the Ganga Ghat for Aarti ceremony at holy river Ganges. Back to hotel for overnight stay.

In the morning after breakfast drive to Mundoli 240 km / 8-9 hrs via Devprayag, Rudraprayag and Karnprayag. Arrival at Mundoli by evening. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.

In the morning drive 10 kms to Wan, which is the road head for the trek. Today we will trek 11 km 5-6 hrs to reach Bedni Bugyal, probably one of the best camping sites in the Garhwal Himalayas. Dinner and overnight stay in tents. Bedni Bugyal is a charming green meadow adorned with flowers in a spell binding varieties, in full bloom. There is a small lake situated in the midst of the meadow, where Tarpans are offered by the devotees. Situated nearby is a small temple where the devotees pay their obeisance, during their halt at Bedni Bugyal.

Today we will trek up to another Bugyal, Ali Bugyal3300 mts. After exploring the area trek back to Bedni for dinner and overnight stay.

Retrace your steps towards Wan and from here drive to Karnprayag. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Early in the morning drive to Haridwar and from here catch AC Train for Delhi at 18:05 hrs. Arrival at Delhi by 22:45 hrs  & transfer to airport for flight back to home.

Evening transfer to railway station for overnight train to Haridwar – Dep. @ 23:30 Pm.

Arrival at Haridwar by early in the morning at 04:00 hrs. Upon arrival at Haridwar transfer to Ukhimath via Rishikesh, Devprayag Confluence of Alaknanda & Bhagirathi, from Devprayag the Holy river Ganges started, Rudraprayag Confluence of Alaknanda & Mandakini River. Breakfast and lunch enroute. Arrival at Ukhimath by evening. Check into TRH. Dinner and overnight stay. Ukhimath 1370 mts / 4500 ft is on the other side of the Mandakini River Valley from Guptkashi a relatively short steep walk by foot, or a much longer way by road. Ukhimath is the winter seat of Kedarnath, as well as the winter home of the priest who presides over his worship. After the Kedarnath temple closes for the winter, a movable image of Kedarnath is brought in procession to Ukhimath, where it resides until the Kedarnath temple reopens in late April or early May. This picture shows the outer gateway to the temple complex, which is not only brightly painted and decorated, but two full stories tall the wall also serves as the back wall of buildings inside. The stones piled at lower left were for some sort of construction project, which was in full swing when I visited since summer is the “slow” season ritually speaking, it made sense for the place to be torn up them. And the nearby buildings are clearly residential, since a young girl is visible at upper right.

In the morning you can see snow capped Himalayan ranges. After breakfast start your trek to Deoriatal through dense forest of Rhodendron and lots of wild flowers and ferns. The trek will take 3- 4 hrs to reach Deoriatal. Upon arrival at Deoriatal set out the tents for overnight stay.

In the morning trek down to Sari village 3 kms and from here drive to Chopta through dense forest and meadows. Its 30 kms drive from Sari Village. Upon arrival at Chopta set out your tents for overnight stay. In the evening explore the magnificent view of the Himalayas.

After an early breakfast trek to Tungnath with packed lunch. Tungnath is situated at the height of 3680 mts from the sea level the highest in India. The trek is three kms upward. Enroute you will find lush green meadows and you can see the entire range of snow capped Himalayas. Upon arrival at Tungnath Temple and visit the temple. After relax one further one kms trek to Chandrasila peak. Later trek back to Chopta for dinner and overnight stay.

After an early breakfast drive to Haridwar. Breakfast & Lunch enroute. Upon arrival at Haridwar transfer to railway station to catch Dehradun Shatabdi express train for Delhi at 18:05 hrs. Arrival at Delhi by 22:45 hrs. & transfer to airport for flight back to home.

Rishikesh – The ‘place of sages’ is a celebrated spiritual town on the bank of Ganga and is surrounded by Shivalik range of the Himalayas on three sides. It is said that when Raibhya Rishi did hard penances, God appeared by the name of “Hrishikesh” and this area hence firth came to be known as Rishikesh. Check in Hotel. Later visit Rishikesh Local Sightseeing & temples. At evening visit Parmarth Niketan for Ganga Aarti. Overnight stay at Hotel.

After breakfast, drive to Joshimath enroute visit Devprayag, Rudraprayag & Karnprayag. Arr. Joshimath, check in Hotel. Later at evening visit Shankarcharya Math & Narsingh Temple. Dinner & overnight stay.

After breakfast, transfer to Auli by Ropeway At your own. Auli is located at an altitude of 2500-3050 meters above sea level, and offers a panoramic view of Mt. Nanda Devi, Mana Parvat, Doonagiri, Bithartoli, Neelkanth, Hathi Parbat, Gori Parbat, Nar Parbat and Kamet. The snow dressed slopes of Auli are covered with evergreen conifers and oak forests. Check in Hotel. Rest day at leisure.

After breakfast trek to Gorson Bugyal A big patch of green meadows 03 kms  /  one way it is a very beautiful trek altitude ranging from 2591mts to 3049 meters and we can see whole ranges of Himalayan’s peaks on the way to trek. Enjoy Skiing activities. Dinner & overnight stay.

PROGRAM 6 – Camping in Har Ki Dun
Duration: 08 Nights / 09 Days

In the morning take an AC Train for Dehradun at 06:55 hrs. Arrival at Dehradun by noon. Upon arrival at Dehradun met our representative and then transfer to Mussoorie and check in to hotel for overnight stay. Mussoorie, with its green hills and varied flora & fauna, is a fascinating hill station. Commanding snow ranges to the north-east, and glittering views of the Doon Valley & Shivalik ranges in the south, the town presents a fairyland atmosphere to the tourists. Its history dates back to 1827 when Captain Young, an adventurous military officer, explored the present site and laid the foundation of this holiday resort which now has few rivals. Mussoorie is famous for its scenic beauty and hectic social life. It provides all kinds of amusement and every facility for domestic and foreign tourists. Mussoorie is conveniently connected to road by Delhi and major cities and is the ‘Gateway’ to Yamunotri and Gangotri Shrines of Northern India.

This day hit the road and drives to Sankri. Sankri, via Mussoorie, Kempty falls, Purola and Mori. This is starting point of our trek. Overnight in tourist rest house /  tent.

From Sankri the road is well made and passes through dense forest with gorgeous views down the valley, of local settlements and river Rupin. Taluka, a small hamlet nestled in the laps of nature is located at the 1900 Mts. Taluka has guest houses and a few shack shops providing daily provisions to the local inhabitants. Overnight in tourist rest house /  tent.

The trail from Taluka village initially descends and then continues gradually on the true left of the valley adjoining the river Rupin. Later the trail winds up the beautiful forest of Chestnut, Walnut and Willows and continues to the village of Gangar. Here cross the side stream and continue to climb to see settlement of picturesque Osla village at a distant on the true right of the valley. Continue to trek to Seema the campsite just opposite to the village of Osla separated by the swift river. Seema is a small tourist hub with shops of limited supplies, a forest rest house and tourist Bounglow. Overnight in tourist rest house /  tent.

The trail from Seema initially continues on the true left of the valley, goes past fields followed by crossing a hanging bridge over river Rupin, to the true right of the valley. The trail now ascends, go past through fields and pastures with huts. The coniferous flora on the opposite side of the valley is awesome and much adorable. The trail climbs to the ridge locally named as Kalkatti Dhar, from where the trail traverses to give you awesome view of Har Ki Dun. From here initially the trail climbs gradually and later gets steep in times go past through beautiful meadows to the campsite at Har KI Dun. The campsite is by the small stream, with peaks of Har Ki Dun and Swargarohini towering above. Overnight in the tents.

The day is for relaxation and exploration. Having a morning at ease you can explore Morinda lake in the first half of the day. After lunch exploration towards Jaundhar Glacier is adorable. Overnight in the tents.

The reverse trek to the village of Osla is an easy walk which gives a lot of opportunity to admire the beauty of the valley. The trek to Osla will take around 3-4 hrs. Overnight in tourist rest house /   tent.

The walk towards Taluka village is equally easy as the previous day. The beauty down the valley is really immaculate and worth it. Overnight in rest house /   hotel.

The trek for the day is relaxing and fun walk through the forest and on well made road. On arriving Sankri we bid farewell to ponies /   porters. Board the vehicle and start driving towards Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand and have places of tourism aspect. On arrival transfer to railway station & from here catch AC train /  AC Coach for Delhi at 16:55 pm. Arrival at Delhi by 22:50 pm & transfer to airport for flight back to home.

PROGRAM 7 – Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh Tribal Tour

On the 1st day of the ‘Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh Tribal Tour’, Our tour representative will meet you at the Delhi airport/railway station and escort you to the hotel already booked for your stay. After relaxing for a few hours, go out on a sightseeing tour of Delhi covering Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Parliament Street and India Gate. Later, return back to the hotel for night stay.

Following a leisurely breakfast in the morning, drive to the Delhi airport to board flight to Raipur. Upon arrival, leave by road for Kanker ( approximately 3 hour journey).  On reaching there, move to the splendid Kanker Palace for night stay.

Today, in the morning, our guides will pick you up and escort you to the tribal regions of Kondagaon and Narayanpur. Post breakfast, leave by road to visit the Keshkal Ghat bordered with the tribal district of Bastar. Later, drive to Kondagaon and Narayanpur, famous for their exquisite Bastar handicrafts. By evening, return back to the Kanker Palace for night stay.

Post breakfast in the morning, leave by road for Jagdalpur, the former capital of Bastar. Here, you will get a chance to meet and interact with various tribal groups of Bastar. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the hotel. Post lunch, go out for a sightseeing tour of Jagdalpur. The places you will visit include Chitrakote Waterfalls and Anthropological Museum. Later, you will be taken to have trysts with the local Bison-Horn Maria tribe and witness their ceremonial dance performances. Later, return back to the hotel for night stay.

Today, after breakfast, start your journey towards the famous Kanger  Valley National Park. The sanctuary is home to a wide variety of wildlife. Later, visit the nearby Stalactite and Stalagmite Caves and the Tirathgarh Waterfalls. By evening, return back to Jagdalpur for night stay.

A visit to Raipur is on the cards on the 6th day of  Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh Tour Package. Post breakfast in the morning, check out of your hotel and drive to Raipur (4 hours). It is the capital city of Chattisgarh. Upon arrival, check into the hotel. Post lunch, go out on a sightseeing tour of the Mahant Ghasidas Museum. Later, return back to the hotel for night stay. 

Today, understanding the lifestyle of the tribal people in Kawardha is on the cards. Post breakfast in the morning, check out of the hotel and leave by road for Kawardha. On reaching Kawardha, check in at the Kawardha Palace for  overnight stay.

Morning after breakfast, leave for a full-day sightseeing tour covering visits to Radha Krishna Temple, Saroda Reservoir, the enchanting and very famous Bhoramdeo Group of Temples and Lohara Bavli. Later, visit Baiga and Gond tribal villages that give you a clear idea of tribal life of Chhattisgarh. Evening, return to Kawardha Palace for night stay.

Post breakfast in the morning, check out of the hotel and take a road trip to Kanha National Park, the famous wildlife sanctuary. On reaching Kanha, check in at the Tuli Jungle Resort. Post lunch, enjoy an exciting jungle safari in the national park. Later, return back for an overnight stay  in the resort.

Today, spend the entire day in enjoying the wildlife safari at this wildlife sanctuary. On the 10th day, enjoy two jungle safaris (morning and afternoon) to explore the length and breadth of this wildlife sanctuary and watching animals in their natural turf. By evening, return back to the resort for night stay.

Today, after breakfast in the morning, leave by road for Jabalpur. En route, halt for the sightseeing tour  at Marble Rocks. The shimmering white rocks located nearby Bedaghat. Later, proceed towards Jabalpur. Upon arrival, drive to the railway station to board train to Bhopal. Overnight journey on board.

Early morning arrival in Bhopal followed by assisted transfer to the hotel by our tour representative. After a short rest, proceed on a sightseeing tour of Bhopal. The major places you will cover include Taj-UL-Masjid, Bharat Bhawan (the center for visual and performing arts) and the Jama Masjid. Later, return back to the hotel for night stay.

Today, you will be taken to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sanchi, famous for its Buddhist  pilgrimage site in Madhya Pradesh. Have breakfast and go out on a full day excursion to Sanchi. The spectacular stupas, monasteries and temples located in Sanchi dates back to the 3rd and the 12th century B.C. Later, you will visit the famous Ashoka Pillar before leaving for Bhopal in the evening. Later, return back to the hotel for night stay.

The morning is free to relax in the comforts of your room. Post  lunch, drive to the Bhopal railway station to board the train to Agra. By evening, arrive in Agra followed by assisted transfer to the hotel for night stay.

In the morning, after breakfast, go out for a full day tour of Agra. Start your journey with a visit to the famous Taj Mahal, one of the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’ and an ode to the eternal love of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal. Later, proceed to the majestic Red Fort, a red sandstone edifice and the erstwhile demesne of the Mughal rulers. The fort complex is home to several gardens, halls and palaces. Later, return to the hotel for night stay.

Today is the last day of your Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh Tour. Post breakfast in the morning, check out of your hotel and leave by road for Delhi. Upon arrival, check in at the Hotel Ashok Country Resort to rest and relax. In the evening, drive to the New Delhi  airport/railway station for onward journey.

PROGRAM 8 – Ethnic Textile Tour

In the morning after breakfast, proceed for a city tour of Kolkata. The major tourist attractions of the Kolkata city include Fort William, Gurusaday Museum, Howrah Bridge, Indian Museum, Jawahar Shishu Bhawan,  Kalighat Kali Temple, Nakhoda Mosque, and the Parashnath Jain Temple. In the evening visit the  Botanical Garden, an amazing place for people who have profound love for nature. The garden has abundant of flowering plants and fruit bearing trees. Next morning post breakfast, get deported to the Kolkata airport to board a flight to Bhubaneshwar. As you reach Bhubaneshwar, check-in at one of our listed hotels. In the morning after breakfast , leave for Sambhalpur.  While on your drive to Sambhalpur stop midway to visit Nuapatna, the handloom weavers village. The villagers of Nuapatna have been weaving handloom cloths continuously for generations. The weavers here have been practicing the resist method of tie and dye. The ability to dye the design properly was key and involved multiple skills: precision, mathematical calculations and artistry.  After the visit continue your drive to Sambhalpur. As you reach Sambhalpur, check-in at one of our listed hotels. Sambalpur is the center for the textile industry spread over western Orissa.  The ikat or the sambalpuri sarees are worldwide famous for their intricate designs. In the afternoon visit the Gole Bazaar that has a great collection of designer sarees. Later in the day pay a visit to the major tourist attractions of Sambhalpur like Hirakund Dam, Ushakothi Wildlife Sanctuary and the Huma Temple. Return to the hotel for overnight stay.

After breakfast, visit some of the handloom weavers’ villages. The double-sided Ikat designs, woven in colored, silver and gold threads, common in Sambalpur textiles and handlooms. Then leave for Boudh.  Boudh is famous for silk Bomkai saree, tie & dye cotton saree and silk tie & dye saree.  In the evening visit the market for shopping for some of these fabulous sarees. After breakfast proceed to Bissam Cuttack. Stop midway to visit the Phulbani and Kutia Kondh villages. Dinner and overnight at Bissam Cuttack.

Next morning head straight to visit one of the Dongeria Kondh villages. After visiting the village trek down the hills along with the tribals to their Wednesday weekly market at Chatikona. Enjoy breakfast at Chatikona proceed to Jeypore. Stop midway at Koraput for lunch. As you reach Jeypore, check-in at one of our listed hotels. The rest of the day to be spent resting and relaxing. PROGRAM 10 – India – Tuk-Tuk Adventures
Duration: 08 Nights / 09 Days
Places: Cochin – Valparai – Munnar – Periyar – Kulamavu – Alleppey – Cochin

Today you arrive at Kochi. You will be met at the airport and be transferred to Fort Cochin. Set on a cluster of islands and narrow peninsulas, Kochi is a city at the crossroads of culture with winding streets, shady trees, Kathakali dance, modern Indian art museums, 500-year old Portuguese houses, mosques, a tiny Jewish community with ancient roots and ferry boats scuttling to and fro. After you have settled in your hotel, in the evening it’s time for your Tuk-Tuk familiarisation along with the tour mechanic. Later, you will get an opportunity to go on a backstreet tour of the city in Tuk-Tuks, visiting the spice market and the fishing harbor.

After breakfast, on day 2, you will start your Tuk-Tuks and set course to Athirapally, famous for its majestic waterfalls. The initial ride will be through the city and then you will start riding through the back roads, and plantations of rubber, oil palms and spices as we gradually gain in altitude. Our destination is near the magnificent waterfalls in Kerala which is also one of the largest in all of the Western Ghats. Recently this was in the news with conservationists in Kerala who managed to stave off a big dam construction which would have irreversibly destroyed the rich bio-diversity of this region. There are ongoing projects to link the fragmented forests in order to ensure that the migration of the Asiatic elephants is not hindered.

Today you will have a fantastic ride through the rich canopy of the Western Ghats up towards the hill station of Valparai with vast swathes of tea and forests. The area is rich in birds & animals, many of them endemic to the Western Ghats. Keep a look out for the highly endangered Malabar Pied Hornbill and Lion Tailed Macaques which are on the IUCN Red List. The rain forests here also hold out the promise of sightings of the endemic Malabar Grey Hornbill, Wayanad Laughing Thrush and the Nilgiri Langurs. Elephants, leopards and gaurs (Indian Bison) are commonly spotted near the roads, as you gain in altitude to nearly 1500m at Valparai. On arrival, you will stay at a colonial bungalow within a tea estate.

Munnar is the place to go to when you want the tropical heat of lowland Kerala to be a distant memory. Playing host to one of the best scenic regions in south India with panoramic views of the lush green hills, Munnar is the largest tea growing region in south India with tea plantations stretching across the hills. Munnar can be a destination for leisure and adventure at the same time. You will be riding through the tea plantations to reach your place of accommodation. The route to Munnar via Chinnar passes dry, deciduous forests and a tiger reserve area. Proceeding further in your Tuk-Tuk, towards Marayur, you will be welcomed by sandalwood forests. The ride through the tribal area and rainforests will rejuvenate you even before you reach Munnar.

Your next destination Periyar, with its very own Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, is an important tourist destination. The sanctuary is famous for its dense evergreen, semi-evergreen and deciduous forests. The enchanting artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam across the Periyar River lends more charm to the National Park. These sprawling picturesque plantations, forests, and hills make Thekkady a great place for exploring. The ride through Periyar involves roads edged by spice gardens and tea plantations. The ride is quite comfortable and you will reach the reserve in time for lunch. If you are a wildlife enthusiast, you can take a walk with the local guides into the rainforest. On the second day, you will take a day off from the Tuk-Tuk ride. There will be enough to explore, in and around the area, be it the beauty of nature all around or the charming culture of the place. The boat ride during the day and the Kalaripayettu performance in the evening are fascinating experiences. You can also take a walk to explore the flora and fauna near the national park which is home to many endemic and endangered species. 

Your next destination Kulamavu is serenity itself, a place not visited much by the regular tourists. It is a hill station set in captivating surroundings, and you cant help but notice the fresh air and cool breeze. Here you can enjoy a few quiet moments, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. On the way you will see the famous arch dam, arguably the biggest arch dam in Asia constructed by the British. You also have a definite chance to spot wildlife such as bisons, elephants and sambar deers in Kulamavu.

Alleppey is home to lush green, palm-fringed canals, mirror-like still lagoons and tranquil lakes. Glimpses of the countryside and the deeply embedded ethnic roots of this wondrous land can leave you spellbound. Your Tuk-Tuks will take you through the roads towards the small villages set alongside the magical water world that makes up the backwaters. Here, you will embark one of Kerala’s most luxurious forms of accommodation and transport, the houseboat. Reclining on cushions and drifting through quiet canals, you will pass by paddy fields dotted with ducks, floating markets, local toddy shops, temples, and churches.

After breakfast on day 9, you will hit the beach road towards your final destination, Kochi. The route passes through country roads and small villages where you will see coconut husk being processed and made into coir ropes and mats. You could stop over at the pristine Marari beach en-route. You will pass by fishing villages and coconut plantations on one side and the sea on the other, to reach Kochi by evening. 

This day marks the end of the your Tuk-Tuk adventure and you will be transported to the airport.

Breakfast at hotel. Spend the day sightseeing various places like the Howrah Bridge, Victoria Memorial, Kali Ghat Temple, Botanical Gardens, flower market, St. Paul’s Cathedral Church and Mother Teresa’s House. The day is spent getting oriented to the culturally rich city of Kolkata.

After breakfast transfer to the airport and take a flight to Bagdogra. On arrival continue drive to Darjeeling and check in at the hotel. Nestled among the rolling mountains with the glistening Mt Kanchenjunga towering over the azure sky, Darjeeling is fondly called ‘ Queen of the Hills’. It provides a perfect gateway for those seeking to be in harmony with nature. Darjeeling, though in the state of West Bengal, shares more common history with neighboring Nepal and Sikkim. Spend the day sightseeing in and around Darjeeling. The key highlights are Tiger Hill, Toy Train to Ghoom, the Ghoom Monastery and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and Museum. The Ghoom monastery is correctly known as Yogachoeling Gompa. This is probably the most famous monastery in Darjeeling and is about 8 km south of town, just below Hill Cart road and the train station near Ghoom. It enshrines an image of the Maitreya Buddha. The HMI is yet another sight that should not be missed. The Mountaineering Museum contains a collection of historic mountaineering equipment, specimens of Himalayan flora and fauna and a relief model of the Himalayas. The Everest Museum next door traces the history of attempts on the great peak. Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, who conquered Everest with Edmund Hillary in 1953, lived in Darjeeling and was the director of the institute for many years. He died in 1986 and his statue now stands beside cremation spot just above the institute.

After breakfast drive to Cooch Behar. Cooch Behar is well known for being the maternal home of Princess Gayatri Devi.

After breakfast visit the Cooch Behar Palace and Madan Mohan Temple. Cooch Behar Palace  was designed on the model of Buckingham Palace in London. Conceived from the concept of classical European style of Italian Renaissance, this magnificent palace was built by the famous Koch king Maharaja Nripendra Narayan in 1887.

After breakfast transfer to the Bagdogra Airport to fly to Delhi. On arrival check in at the hotel.

In Delhi, you will encounter a fascinating blend of the ancient and the contemporary, where government buildings, medieval palaces and bazaars exist beside a modern metropolis.

Delhi is a city waiting to be explored. Overnight in the hotel. Landmark monuments make for a great sightseeing day in Delhi. The 17th century imposing fortress, Red Fort, followed by Jama Masjid, the mosque that can house 20,000 kneeling devotees in prayer and Raj Ghat, Gandhi’s memorial. After breakfast drive to Agra. Agra stands on the right bank of the river Yamuna, was once the seat of the Mughal rulers, the zenith of art and an en-shrined romance. It is a town famous for its beautiful medieval monuments. The passion of the Mughals for building endowed it with some of the loveliest buildings in the world. Overnight in the hotel.

After breakfast proceed to the world famous monument of India the Taj Mahal (1631-1653), a poem in white marble, built by Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died giving birth to their 14 child. It employed 20,000 workers from the Central Asia and Europe for 22 years to construct this extravagant monument of love, inlaying the white marble edifice with precious and semi precious stones. Later visit the Agra Fort, situated on the west bank of the river Jamuna, made by the Mughal King Akbar in the 16th century and completed by his grandson Shah Jahan, who was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb for 8 years in this fort, before his death. After breakfast drive to Jaipur. On the way, visit Fatehpur Sikri, the beautiful and deserted medieval city built by Akbar the Great in the 16th century to serve as the capital of his vast empire. The complex consists of religious, residential and administrative buildings. The Mosque is considered a copy for the Mosque at Mecca and is extremely elegant, containing elements of Hindu and Persian design. Housed here is the Shrine of Sheikh Salim Chisti one of the greatest of Sufi saints of the Muslim world.

On arrival in Ahmedabad transfer to the hotel. Ahmedabad is the pot-pouri of tradition and modern Islam and practicing Hinduism. A city known for many outstanding institutes and ashrams, it is situated on the banks of the Sabarmati River was the former capital of the state of Gujarat founded by Sultan Ahmed Shah in 1411. Today it is metropolis of the Indian Textile Industry.

In the afternoon visit to Jama Masjid (Friday Mosque) built by Ahmed Shah in 1424, the façade is emphasized by the spacious courtyard paved in marble with a tank in the middle. It has a screen of arches flanked by a pillared portico. Later proceed to Sidi Sayed Mosque- Sidi Sayed Mosque is unique for its exquisite screens, which are praised for their amazing Jhali screen, framed, in the ten semi-circular windows. The screen carved out of one rock is just exceptional. A visit to this superb and outstanding example of delicate carving is an absolute must. Overnight in the hotel.

There are a number of things to see in Ahmedabad – Adalaj, Sabarmati Ashram, Dada Hari na Vav, Hate Singh Temple. Of these, the Gandhi Museum at Sabarmati is something you will love. It is one of the places from where Gandhi started the freedom movement. In 1930 it was from here that Gandhi started his Dandi Yatra to flout the salt laws of the British. The ashram, located on the banks of Sabarmati River was founded in 1915. Today it has been converted into a Gandhi memorial.

After breakfast drive to Vadodara, once the capital of the Gaikwads. Baroda is a city with traditional heritage. A graceful city with palaces, parks and museums, Baroda is well known for its university and faculty of fine arts and is also a thriving industrial centre. Visit the Laxmi Vilas Palace built as the residence of the royal family. It is an extravagant and flamboyant piece of architecture, which houses royal collection of art treasure.. Kirti Mandir, the family vault of the Gaikwads, is decorated with murals by Nandalal Bose. The Vadodara museum and picture gallery has impressive collection of European oil masters, Mughal miniatures and valuable Buddhist and Jain palm leaf manuscripts. Overnight in the hotel.

After breakfast Visit Prince of Wales Museum (closed on Mondays). Prince of Wales Museum is the erstwhile name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya of Mumbai. In 1905, George V laid down, the Prince of Wales himself, who came on a visit to India its foundation stone. George Wittet, an architect, designed the splendid structure. The construction work was concluded in 1914, but the structure was converted to a military hospital for the period of World War I. Lady Lloyd inaugurated the full-fledged museum in 1923. The Kamla Nehru Park is next on the list. Perched on the top of Malabar Hill, Kamala Nehru Park is essentially a vantage point that presents a panoramic view of the glittering city – Mumbai. Fly to the city of Jorhat in Assam. On arrival transfer to Heritage Thengal Manor. Afternoon, take a walk around Jalukonibari village (Assamese village). A Colonial Style Manor “Thengal Manor” is located at a distance of 8 miles from Jorhat Town. The land area is 6 hectares. Thengal is a 72 year old mansion and its name is written in the annals of history because the first daily newspaper in Assamese Language ‘Dainik Batori’ was launched from here. After breakfast we drive to Neematighat (20 Kms / 40 mins) for ferry crossing (1 hr downstream boat cruise- the time depends upon the water level of the river) to Majuli – the largest inhabited river island in the world and famous for the Vaishnavite Satras or monasteries (Kamalabari Satra, Auniati Satra, Benganti satra, and many more) and culture. It is nestled between the confluence of the Subansiri and the Brahmaputra River. Visit the monasteries and interface with the tribes on the island. Overnight at Majuli.

After breakfast ferry across to Neematighat and later drive to Dibrugarh (145 kms/ 03 ½ hrs). Enroute we visit the Ahom monuments and temples at Sivasagar which encompass the 600 year old history of the Ahom Dynasty. Check in at Heritage Chang Bungalow for 02 nights. After breakfast drive to Wakro (190 kms / 4 hrs). Enroute visit Empong Village to see the Khampti tribes and also visit the Buddhist Gompa. Check in at Purvi’s Mishmi Retreat, Wakro.  Khamptis are one of the major tribal inhabitants of the Lohit District. They are deeply influenced by Buddhist ethics and morality. The Khamptis are Buddhists of the Theraveda School. They are the only tribe in Arunachal Pradesh who has their own script for the language. Traditionally, they live on the cultivation of paddy and other crops. Wakro (maximum valley altitude 2000m) is the homeland of the “Mishmis” one of the Mongoliod tribes of Tibeto-Burman origin. They speak their own dialect which varies from different groups. The three major Mishmi groups are “Idus” “Tarons” and the ‘Kamans’. Mishmis are very rich in culture and may be termed as a festival loving people. Today we visit the local Mishmi tribal villages like Kanjan Village, Pukhuri Village, and Thomba Village to learn about their rich culture and traditions and interact with the Mishmi tribe. After breakfast drive to Roing (160 kms/ 5 hrs) in the Debang valley of Arunachal Pradesh crossing the Lohit River at Digaru. Enroute visit Parasuramkund- a pilgrimage site where thousands of pilgrims come every year during Makar Sankranti to take a holy dip in the river. Roing rises from the Himalayan foothills to the middle ranges with the highest point of Mayodia at a height of 2655 meters from mean sea level. Snow-capped peaks, turbulent rivers, mystic valleys and abundance of rich flora and fauna are a few attractions of the district. Idu Mishmi is the major tribe inhabiting this area along with the Adi Padam tribe in the lower plain areas. The Idu Mishmi tribe is also known as Chulikatas. They build their houses on the slant of hills or in the forest . Overnight in the hotel.

Today we drive to Mayodia Pass (55kms/1hr30mins) – a unique pass situated at an altitude of 7000 ft amidst lofty hills, lush green forests and breathtaking landscapes. Return to Roing and visit the local villages. Overnight in the hotel.

After breakfast drive to Tinsukia (120 kms/4 hrs) including ferry crossing. First we drive 02 hrs to reach Sadiya Ghat to board a ferry cruise (01 hr) on the headwaters of Brahmaputra river to reach Soikhowaghat. From Soikhowaghat we drive 01 hr to reach Tinsukia. Check in at Wathai Heritage Bungalow, Limbuguri Tea Estate for 02 nights. Afternoon at leisure. Overnight at the Bungalow.

Today early morning we visit Barekuri Village (10 kms / 20 mins) to see a small group of Hollock Gibbons. Later we drive to Tai Phakial village (35 kms/ 45 mins) – an ethnic village whose kith and kin date back to the Ahom period. The villagers still maintain their age-old culture – a village worth exploring. Later we visit the Bell’s Temple and Railway Heritage Museum. Overnight at Wathai Heritage Bungalow.

Post breakfast we drive to Digboi (45 kms / 01 hr), the first oil town of South Asia. Visit the Oil Museum and the 2nd World War Allied Forces Cemetery where 200 graves are permanently maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Thereafter drive to Margherita (20 kms / 30 mins) and visit the Singpho village. Singpho people are Theravada Buddhists by religion. The Singphos are divided into a number of clans, each under a Chief known as “Gam”. They were the first to introduce the tea culture in Assam. Later drive back to Dibrugarh 80 kms / 02 hrs and check in at Heritage Chang Bungalow for night.

Along the way you will also see the city’s delicious and aromatic street food heritage; and will learn local religious rituals and legends when you stop at small shrines.  Strolling through the bazaars is a lesson in the lifestyle of ordinary people.
