PROGRAM 1 – Mini Break Meditation and Yoga Retreat
Duration: 03 Nights / 04 Days
Place: Kerala, India

Yoga Retreat in Kerala (Kin-Hin Zen Meditation Center)

As a human, you would want to feel in control. However, Zen encourages you to take a fresh look at your inbred beliefs, to make mistakes and not be horrified by them. Zen acknowledges that there will always be conflicts in your life and teaches you not to dwell upon them through this retreat. Kerala is always green, but during the monsoon season, its greenery positively explodes and it is a great time to have a well-deserved mini break with your hosts Karen and Sivan.

During this retreat, you will stay at Kin-Hin Zen Meditation Center. Kin-Hin, being a private home, is primarily a non-residential Zen center. There are two guest rooms for home-stay accommodation if a personal, friendly, and homely atmosphere appeals to you. It is perfect for those that prefer to stay away from the main tourist area and experience Indian village life.

Kin-Hin has a large sit out area for your private use. The rooms are on the second floor of the house and are well-furnished with modern en-suite bathrooms which have solar-heated hot water. Wi-Fi, filtered water, tea bags, and coffee are all available for you too. Daily meditation is conducted on the roof in the morning and evening. You can use the space for personal practice at other times.

Yoga

Yoga is especially important in today’s world and lifestyle as the need to combine body, mind, and spirit becomes increasingly essential in order to remain balanced. Regular practice brings about subtle changes in one’s approach to life. Exercising the body and stilling the mind produces an inner peace. This peace is one’s true nature and the essence of yoga and meditation practice.

Meditation or Zazen

In its beginning stages, Zazen is a practice of concentration. More than just meditation, Zazen is a powerful tool for self-inquiry. Through Zazen, you can come to grasp Dogen’s definition of Zen, to forget yourself and be enlightened by the ten thousand things and through that understanding, you have the potential to transform your life.

Zen is not a technique to be learned, it is more of an attitude toward life and Zen meditation is a superb spiritual practice with no technique to learn and no promises extended.

Understanding Zen means understanding yourself. This understanding cannot be found in books. One needs to experience Zen and the experience needs to be first hand. Zen is to experience observing all your thoughts without acting on them. Be the master of your mind and not a slave.

The two weeks yoga retreats will help you to adjust to the yoga school lifestyle along with having some of the best moments of your life and enjoy holiday activities like trekking, sightseeing, river rafting, and more in Rishikesh, India. If the retreats are blended with Hiking, it is going to be so much fun, isn’t it?

Day 1- Rishikesh – Ukhimath (225 kms/7 hrs)

After breakfast at Retreat Centre (Rishikesh), which is also known as the pilgrim trail of Uttrakhand. From there you will meet your instructor and then you will be transferred to Ukhimath via Devprayag- a town marking the gorgeous confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi and Rudraprayag making confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini River. Arrival at Ukhimath will be in the evening. You will check in at the hotel, have dinner, meditation, and overnight stay. Ukhimath is situated at an altitude of 1370 meters / 4500 feet above sea level.

Ukhimath is a small town the winter seat of Kedarnath, and a Hindu pilgrimage site in Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand, India. During the winters, the idols from Kedarnath temple, and Madhyamaheshwar are brought to Ukhimath and worshipped here for six months.

Day 2- Ukhimath – Deoria Tal (2438 mts / 7998 ft)

In the early morning, you can see the snow-capped Himalayan ranges. From 6:00 to 8:00 a.m., there will be a yoga class. After your yoga class, enjoy your delicious breakfast at 8:30 a.m. After breakfast, pack your bag and get ready for a drive of approximately 40 minutes which will take you to Sari The traditional village is a pretty picture composed of little houses sketched across a mountain backdrop and lined with green patches of agricultural fields. A well-defined rocky trail will show you to the end, from where the Chandrashila summit is clearly visible and the Tunganath temple is a speck of color. After this point, it’s a steep uphill bend on the ridge back of the mountain. From here you will start the trek to Deoria Tal through the dense forest of Rhododendron along with wildflowers and ferns.

The trek will take 2 to 3 hours. We go steadily up. At 7, 434 ft. village localities vanish from sight. Nearly 20 minutes from this point, we will be standing with the waters of Deoriatal glistening down a lurching gentle slope. A grand vista of Chaukhamba massifs is unveiled in the background of the lake. Set out the tents near the lakeside for an overnight stay. From 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., there will be a meditation class, dinner will be at 7:30 p.m. and at 8:30 p.m. the lights will be off.

Day 3- Deoria Tal – Chopta

The trail is sprinkled with little shrines that stand out in the greenness by the red and yellow flags tied on them. It is a 12-kilometer trek. A resplendent view of the Chandrashila awaits on the other side of the forest margin. After the level-land, you will have to re-enter the forest now characterized by old oaks and maple beside the rhododendrons. This forms part of the Kedarnath Sanctuary, and with some luck, trekkers can spot red fox and other small wild things.

Along this line, Chandrashila and flanked by the adjoining Kala Parvat Peak gain prominence. You can find the way bending from here to Bisuri Tal lake and a small tarn named Nandikund, situated at the base of Kala Parvat. Further down as you progress, a silvery rivulet coming from Chandrashila meets your way. Here, you can fill your water supplies and move on taking a small wooden bridge on the stream. Shepards from local villages come here to graze their livestock. In the afternoon upon arrival at Chopta enjoy your lunch with a mesmerizing 360-degree view of snow-covered Himalayan peaks. In the evening, explore the beauty of Chopta. After that from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., there will be a meditation class, dinner will be at 7:00 p.m.and at 8:30 p.m the lights will be off.

Day 4- Chopta Tungnath – Chandrashila– Rudraprayag

From 6:00 to 7:00 a.m. enjoy a yoga class. After an early breakfast, start your trek to Tungnath which is the highest Shiva temple in the world. The trek runs on a well-defined concrete-bound trail from Chopta to the temple. Tungnath is situated at the height of 3680 meters above the sea level.

The trek is 3-kilometres upward and en-route you will find lush green meadows. You can witness a wide range of snow-capped Himalayas. Upon arriving, pay a visit to Tungnath Temple. After resting for a while, you can head out for Chandrashila peak, which is a kilometer away from Tungnath. At the end of a steep and arduous climb, the summit will be reached with a 360-degree view of the Garhwal and Kumaon mountains welcomingly lying ahead. Notable peaks in this panorama of grandeur are—Nanda Devi, Trishul, Nandaghunti, Dronagiri, Chaukhamba, and Kedar. Glimpses of the Thalaysagar and Gangotri ranges too could be made out at the edges. Later, you will trek back to Chopta and then drive one hour to Rudraprayag for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5- Rudraprayag – Rishikesh

From 6:00 to 7:00 a.m. enjoy a yoga class, therefore an early breakfast. Drive back to Rishikesh. After some rest at 8:00 p.m there will be a group dinner and celebration at the Retreat center on the successful completion of the retreat.
